RNLI dont fix:

Water makers
Engines
Sails
Masts
Rudders
Or rigging

They turn up and pick you up. It's like Uber but at sea :winedrinker:

A friend of mine had to pay 3k for a tug to tow him in last year. The engine fail off the coast near Great Yarmouth [9n5.gif]

Losing a mast, or a rudder, is just a tad life threatening...don't you think?

Rudders are designed to be replaced at sea. Steering too and spares carry just encase.
If the mast snaps, you motor into the closest port for repair.

If the keel hits a rock and snaps.... you're fcuked. The boat will capsize and its time to grab the grab bags and get into the lifeboat. Then wait for rescue. There are people who made it into port with damaged keels. This comes down to the weather.

My new boats got retractable dagger boards and they can be swapped at sea.

Fire is an issue and again it's time to get into the lifeboat. Boats will burn out in under 60 sec's.

Sailing is one of the safest hobbies you can have. They build redundancy into them and unless you're unlucky.....you will make it into port.

There was a guy always in the media for his sailing exploits a while ago.
He got rescued by the lifeboats more times than I 've had hot dinners.
He set out to sail round the world and got as far as Portsmouth.
He also started from Portsmouth.
He your inspiration? :yahoo:

Go around the world? Eeeeeeerrrrrrrr :peekaboo:

French Polynesia maybe

I'd hire a local boat once I'm there :winedrinker:

And I will share the story of how and why I started sailing with you 1956362r6lk147bwq.gif]

At around 13 years old....... a girl took an interest in me and one took me out on her dad's clinker dinghy. When alone and trapped 2 miles of the coast of Worthing.......she touch me in my special place :crying:

After spending the summer of "abuse" by this girl and I've blacked most of it out
My Dad decided he was the new Joshua Slocum brought a mirror dinghy. After a few weeks of getting cold, wet, lost and bored.....give up on it [rofl02.gif]

The Mirror dinghy is named after a newspaper :rarrr:

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/h ... d-10884888

And I started sailing this boat every summer until I left home. :proud:

In a debate more complex than Brexit.... with more crying and threats of violence :peekaboo:

I've place an offer on a floating second hand tin can

Its similar to this one [9n5.gif]

Let's hope the boat survey finds tons of faults and the price is reduced
