Yes I'm just making it up [adrian.gif]

So half of them did work and when the supplies were brought in, everything was ok... it was human error that the tanks weren’t fitted correctly and makes you wonder why they didn’t speak to the Arabs who would have been able to assist.. after all, their tanks worked fine..

Next?

Well that happened before and will happen again. Look at the Norwegian campaign in 1940 [9n5.gif]

Poor out of date equipment and "human error" lead to Britain facing invasion in the same year. Only the sea saved us. [adrian.gif]

It proved those running our military are short sighted in planning new equipment for new threats.

No, just stingy when it comes to spending money on equipment that’s already available.. else how’d you imagine the Iraqi’s managed to keep their tanks working in the desert and the Russians managed to keep their planes in the air...

This country’s military is quite capable of operating in any theatre across the world. We’ve trained with other countries armed forces in some of the most inhospitable environments.

The only issue is whether the government would wish to spend the money to equip them..

I can answer that :proud:

The old USSR tested there weapons such as rifle prototypes by first dropping them from 4 meters on to concrete. If they held together and still fired, they carried on research and development.

The Russians always designed there air force to use roads as runways. The old designs used in the middle east were built from the bottom up to handle snow, sand and road chippings. All Russian aircraft from the cold war period had a user life of two weeks in combat too.

All the Russian cold war weapons systems are easy to repair and get parts for. That's why they're still being used today all over the world.

As for UK defence spending..... well this goes back to a defence review under Tories in 1989 [9n5.gif]

Once Russa fell apart they cut back on troop numbers and equipment. The idea of a rapid defence force was dream up. The idea was simple, have 10,000 well trained and equipped troops. The UK's never send more than 10,000 troops into a war zone since Korea in 1950's.

NATO had 12 members in the 1980's but the old eastern bloc states started joining and today there 29.
So if each member of NATO can place 10,000 troops into a combat theater, europe's got a standing army of 290,000 troops.

The combined NATO strength of land, sea and air forces is enough to see off any threats.

This gave the UK a perfectly good reason not to equipe all of there troops.

Infortunity the worlds changed. Few NATO commanders believe members states will contribute forces unless they're directly attacked. The quality of forces variares too. The German Navy is a joke and greece is holding a "loto" raise funds for a new warship. And that's the tip of the icebug

I will say this again, we're defenceless.
