President Macron has vowed to rebuild this Iconic Cathedral.
Should he?
Does it not then become just a new build, instead of a thing of ancient beauty, and history?
Our land is filled with Churches and castles, many are weathered and collapsed by time, or destruction, yet they stand as a part of our history. Still beautiful in their way...and still authentic.

Notre Dame is the Heart of the city and a fully functioning cathedral.

Yes, it should be restored at whatever cost.

We visited the cathedral in 2006 and I was awestruck by it’s magnitude and beauty. I was horrified to see such a wonderful monument going up in flames last night..

But it won't be restored...it will be renewed.
It can never be what it was again.

I find it amazing that somebody can put his hand in his pocket and pull out a 100 million to help pay for the restoration. Two questions.... why does anyone need to have so much money in the first place. It beggars belief. And secondary, with so much poverty in the world couldn't they have donated it to a far worthier cause. Notre Dame will be rebuilt regardless of this type of ridiculous donation.

First this is a tax write off. In the end it won't cost him anything.
Second the rich feel the poor will always be with us. Throwing money at poverty is a waste of time.

Why so much money?

Money is a measure of success. This idea filters down to the poorest members of society. Its why there's millions of £100 football shirts being worn by those on min wage.

See:

https://www.englandstore.com/stores/fa/ ... 2Csterling

The idea is to look successful even if you're not. By wearing an overpriced t shirt it's easily to show wealth.

How much money is too much?

I feel you need to research the Bush family for that. Money buys political power and protection.
