""Jeremy Corbyn has reiterated his suggestion that people left homeless by the Grenfell Tower fire could be housed in empty homes, saying the government has the means to seize property.""

I look forward to him becoming prime Minister, will they water the window-boxes?

Sensational! :woot:

Now the truth:

"Jeremy Corbyn has reiterated his suggestion that people left homeless by the Grenfell Tower fire could be housed in empty homes, saying the government has the means to seize property.

"Occupy it, compulsory purchase it, requisition it," the Labour leader told ITV's Peston on Sunday."

I agree with that. Empty homes not being used could go a long way to solving housing problems and not just for the Grenfell residents.

So Corbyn is planning in repossessing people's property?

Why sprout shit about stuff you know nothing about?

"Corbyn appears to refer to the widespread practice by owners of London luxury property – many of them foreign investors – of letting homes sit empty in the hope of selling them on at a massive profit in the future.

Kensington and Chelsea is the worst performer.

The latest government figures show the wealthy borough of Kensington and Chelsea, where the Grenfell Tower is located, is the worst performer for empty homes in London.

In April, the royal borough had 1,399 empty homes worth £664m – while thousands of families languish on the council’s housing waiting list."

There are also boarded up buildings and homes which have been empty for years. If whoever owns them won't make them part of the infrastructure then they government should force them to.

Who knows? If they're sitting empty for a number of years then then government should have the right to claim them seeing as we have a housing crisis in this country.

If the government can claim estates of those who die intestate then they should be able to claim ownership of unused buildings and homes.

The existing owner can be contacted though a land registry search. If no response after a period of time then it passes to the government to make into habitual housing.

Those just buying to deliberately leave empty properties for the purpose of making profit should be forced to make them available as homes or live in them themselves or lose ownership.

Make do and mend.

Are you not paying attention to DOA Tabby! Investment buyers exploiting our property bubble have no responsibility for Kensington and Chelsea's high property values, it's the immigrants in the high rises!

It's obvious, everywhere you look in the UK it's the areas with the highest density council tower blocks that have the highest property values.

All those large, Victorian properties on wide streets built around tree-lined squares just are totally undesirable (that's why that jobless bloke in Mary Poppins lived in one).

Just check on where the better off people live in your neighbourhood, you'll see just how right he is!
