Under the government's rules for EU workers living in the UK after June 2021:

Quote:
Your rights with settled or pre-settled status
You’ll be able to:

work in the UK
use the NHS for free as you do now
enrol in education or continue studying
access public funds such as benefits and pensions, if you’re eligible for them
travel in and out of the UK

Unfortunately "Immigration and social security coordination" act states "only if there reciprocal agreements with other EU countries".

Right now there's no reciprocal agreements in place.

So what's really going on?

David Cameron wanted:

A four-year freeze on in-work benefits for EU citizens working in the UK.

To stop all payments of child benefit going to children living outside the UK, whose parents are working in the UK.

He didn't get it at this lend to the Brexit referendum.

Boris Johnson government using the EU withdraw bill will accomplish Cameron's aims. Access to public funds will stop for EU citizens if there no agreement with the EU. The "settled or pre-settled status" scheme is not set in law and can be withdrawn or ended at anytime.

With 6 months to go until the UK leaves, a pandemic running across the EU and an immigration crisis going on in the mediterranean sea.... it's hard to imagine any agreement being reached.
