After prolonged illness we're not the people we once were. And we all need to face this while growing older.

There a point when working is only a matter of pride. It dawn on me last year office staff and coworkers saw me more of a liability than contributing :crying:

Now I work part time and take the odd meeting or wander around a few building sites if staff are coming under pressure from clients.

More of a support role.

Maybe it's time you too took a step back from work [shrug65465.gif]

Hmmm I know what you mean but for my sanity I think I need to work or my brain would turn into mush, also, for human company I need to work. I dont have much of a social life and my main human girly life is at work. Finally, the money - I need to carry on earning for as long as I can to pay my mortgage off and be able to have a reasonable level of living when I retire. It's hard work on a daily basis just to get out of bed and drive the van to work never mind sit behind a desk all day so some days I can work from home laid on the sofa dressed in my pjs!

I'm often asked: do you need to live in that big fcuking house on your own [shrug65465.gif]
And the answers yes !!! :snooty:

They do have a point

I get the whole social life thing.
I understand the mortgage and retirement arguments.

If you don't make retirement age and drop dead in Aldi while trying to shove a frozen chicken up Tiggy's ass cos he's being irksome.......then what [shrug65465.gif]

What is a "reasonable level of living"?

The truth is the longer you live past retirement age, the more it costs. At some point your home will have to be sold to cover "retirement home costs" like so many others.

I can only give you the same advice being throw at me every 5 mins.........buy a 1 bedroom retirement property for less that 100k (depending on the area), sell your home and bank money for your old age. :sickly:

The profits from the house sale can be dump into your pension plan. Later on local authorities can't really plunder your pension plan to pay for long term social care, only ask you to contribute towards it.

Since you're already living in a warden assisted property, the price of social care is reduced.

Over the years I've work on a few of these "God waiting rooms" and they have community areas for bingo, wine and art and pole dancing. :winedrinker:

They also have guest rooms for family and friends to use :shifty:

Overall, don't start thinking about retirement at 65. Plan it once you hit 55 and take a long hard look at what you can do, not think you can do. Talking to a friend who's parents are receiving social care may help you plan [thumbsup.png]
