So I'm planning a further viewing (my fourth, to date) in the next few days; plus already bought tickets for seeing it outdoors on the big screen later in the year, in the stunning environs of Lincoln's Castle .... but I've already digressed ... back to the point of this post: a review, if I may be so emboldened?

TGS is unabashedly, unashamedly joyous; a proper feel good film, bursting at its seams with happiness in absoluteness. Yet, that said, there are several thematic threads running throughout, other than just sheer frivolity.

"Other than" being operative terminology; Otherness features strongly, ranging from the visual obviousness right through to the more delicate subtlety, so ephemeral that it may bypass those with less sensitivity (or for whom this really IS their first rodeo!).

Family (both the close knit and the estranged kind), Friendship (both the enduring and the unlikeliest) and Love (in its purest, truest form as well as the forbidden, temptation and longing sort) ... all thematically strong, overlapping and interchanging as the film develops toward its ultimate happy ever after finale (hardly a spoiler alert, so bite me).

Hugh Jackman in the lead role.
Need I say more?
Oh, ok then ...

Yum.

For his stunningly shaped stance alone on the opening beat of the film's beginning ... glorious man. I strongly suspect it will never cease to thrill me.

Talking of beats ... The musical score is wonderful. Yes, it's a musical film, relying heavily upon song elements to deliver much (or expand upon) storyline and to evoke emotion ... but I never found the music to be noticeable; to me it merely became the film, rather than overwhelmed it (if that makes a modicum of sense?).

Of course, if you're predisposed to hatred of all things musically filmed then no, this is not a film for you. Not in the slightest!

But as a musician and dancer both, I devoured it in entirety. Breathtaking in parts, heartbreaking in others. And choreographically stunning. (Kudos to all involved in those scenes!).

All the acting leads (and the lesser roles) performed superbly and I defy anybody who succumbs to the TGS spectacle not to form attachment towards (or empathy for) at least one of the film's characters. There truly is something for everyone, irrespective of individual predilection.

Inclusion in universal appeal ... My kids (of varying ages) all love it ... and the soundtrack is a firm favourite (even amongst the older boys!).

I cannot extol the virtues enough (but I think I've rambled sufficiently, ha).
It's a definite must see (in my humble opinion) so do so ... If you haven't already.

Blimey! That's approaching my personal record (for Blazing Saddles many moons ago)
