Many years I go while working in London.......they housed us in a canal. It was no fun in summer with endless insects and colder than hell in the winter.

While sailing at sea, insects really don't bother you due to being so far out. :rarrr:

But I've been talked into wasting 100k on a new one as a "family accommodation"

"People can't always stay with you, they have jobs or university, there own lives. And Hove is so far south its impractical " I'm told.

My reply was "Can't they rent a flat or get a hotel room?" This was meet with a deafening silence. :peekaboo:

Basically I own it, pay the bills and everyone else gets to use it. Just like my house in Hove [9n5.gif]

I've come to the conclusion living in freezing cold metal confin is a northern thing. Canal boat or caravan, they all aspire to owning one

God only knows why [shrug65465.gif]

While I will hand over cash for my new corsair 760 trimaran On Monday with a smile and a skip :whee:

The canal boat purchase may take a little longer. :shifty:

I know :rarrr:

I can't wait to go to bed so I can wake up around 9am and take the two hour train journey to Southampton [eng1.gif]

After a few hours of begging, crying, faking the odd heart attack and flashing me cod war veterans metal

They may throw in a few extras for free :woot:

The canal boats on the back burner right now due the poor weather and forecast of flying pigs

Pigs don't fly in bad weather, nor do sensible people go off to spend a fortune on a dinghy.

You'd think after just moving I'd be left alone for a while....but no

An email arrived with questions [9n5.gif]

That methanol fuel cell thingy you ordered for boat. Will it work on a canal boat?

Sort out an electrical eng for the canal boat too, I'm talking to them on Fri !!!

(I'll post the tec details of methanol fuel cells on my boat thread later.)

Fri? I've not agreed to buy one yet [9n5.gif]
Does that silly OLD woman know how much an electric eng costs? Am I going to have to fake another heart attack to stop her [shrug65465.gif]

I'd die for real but that's what she wants :snooty:

No doubt on Fri afternoon I'll get a called from a boat builder asking for money
Pitcairn island is looking more attractive by the day

After 5 hours off and on using skype

I've found out what I'm being conned into buying by my sister [1744330pz84739fis.gif]

Departure One

Boat data

Approval category c (near the coast)

7,8m total length

2,5m height

0,28m draft

See:
http://www.caravanboat.de/en/departure-one/
http://www.caravanboat.de/wp-content/up ... iption.pdf

On the face of it, this caravan boat thingy looks a good idea
It can come out the water and be stored when not in use... both a caravan and seaboat
On paper at least this thing will make it across the channel in good weather :shifty:

I can't seem to find a price, the closest I got was a part build at 52k euros [9n5.gif]
Since its German made I'm going to double that 100k euros :peekaboo:

I'm worried about the dimensions. 2.5 meters is about 8 feet and have a feeling its too tall and wide for UK canals. [sad.gif]

See:
https://www.canals.com/canaldata.htm

So I can't really see the point in it [shrug65465.gif]
