I'm shattered, Cosy.
All this time I believed you to be something big in academia, like professor of modern languages at a top university.
And now I find you on UC.
PS. Wanna room? I know a bloke who lets!

i prefer to entertain the people

or outside as a human statue
so technically i do work as hard as anybody else
i just prefer cash in hand thats all
ive paid my dues to society for many years
taxes and all that
so why cant i have a bit of fun before i die?

Morning Mr Polygoat!
I knew all that.
Soon as I read you I saw you as a mentor...So I became your tormentor.
And why not? I like a bit of fun too.
Glad to hear you pay your dues though 'cos someone's got to stump up for my pension.
:proud:

OK lets start off with context

I know this is an unusual subject but if it helps anyone then good. Earlier in the year I heard a strange story where a council (yes, you heard it right) stopped the housing benefit of a dad of three and threatened eviction for no rent paid then told him he would have to make a new claim and sign onto Universal credit, this isn’t lawful. For new claims yes but they can’t just stop the housing benefit and force people onto Universal credit. That case was won in court earlier this year, yet this week they tried it again,to the same family this time the council were informed legal action would follow and the council backed off apologised and restored full benefits. I don’t know if it’s happened to any of you, or if all councils are adopting these practises and there are some triggers they are called that will force people onto Universal credit but double check yourself, don’t just believe what you’re being told even if you think the advisor isnt allowed to lie, double check. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/chang ... sal_Credit also be aware councils do have their own triggers too but they should do things legally at all times. If they are willing to plunge a father of three whose wife passed away months ago then god knows who else they are doing it to. If any authority tries, tell them you want to check it independently and legally. And any big-mouth comments about people on benefits don’t start,I pay my taxes and don’t mind paying for those who need it like them.

Trouble is there are a generation of people who think working 16 hours a week so not to loose their benefits

is a career choice

the 16 hours a week they work means they won’t ever pay tax

in short they are a serious drain on society

im not against benefits per say

quite the opposite

but they should be a short term option for those in need and not a lifestyle choice

Councils will stop paying all housing benefit claims by Apr 2020. This change started 4 years ago with the roll out of UC and should be completed by Apr.

Its part of a cost saving program. Those on sickness benefits will have move onto UC or there rent payments will be stopped. There are transition payments from local councils.

Other benefits like working tax credit, child tax credit, ESA will all end in the next 6 months.

Unfortunately while labour, SNP and lib dem were arguing "brexit" for the last 3 years......nothing was done to stop this program and its been forgotten or overlooked.

SaraPepsiMax this change as been coming for years and a few resist. This "dad" will be called into the local jobcentre and asked to keep an online work diary. He will also be helped into work thru training. An argument that you need to be at home all day to look after kids is no longer valid.

Thin ice is wrong, under the old JSA, people could work 2 days per week, make £300 per day and only lose £7 per day from there benefits. And I know people who did this [spank.gif]

This loophole is now closed. The amount people receive is based on income not hours.

One must need a degree in all this to understand the ins and outs of it.
I should think it's easier, and more rewarding to go to work!

When I was more involved with day to day stuff at work, understanding the welfare system was a key requirement.

People would take home more in there wage packet if they got £7 per hour instead of paying them £12

This mostly applied to those with kids or disability. A single person gets next to nothing from the welfare system. Pay rates for single person needed to be 1/3 higher due to this [9n5.gif]
