We are discussing the purchase of a new car, Me and Mrs D. But Why.?
Can't drive it to town; there's nowhere to park, so we get a bus. And where is the joy of driving these days with clogged roads, jams, diversions closures and all the rest, like wardens and cops an...well you know the problem.

So, why bother? some of our friends have given up the car...should we?

Fukin no way!!! When you stagger back to the car, having humped a load of shopping for half a mile from store to car, you are so pleased to stuff it in the boot, sit in the car and be comfortable and in control again.

It's moments like that that decide us.

If shopping is the only reason you need a car.... don't buy one, use online delivery or take the bus down and a taxi back

While you gently age......car insurance prices start to increase after retirement.
Buy a pre 2017 car taxed at the old rates or you'll be paying double in road fund tax.
Don't buy a hybrid car. (Again the car insurance is higher)

At a work meeting on Tuesday, 2 new Ford Rangers were placed on order after problems with Toyota Hilux. I'm not sure if a 4 wheel drive pick up is the right vehicle for you. At 24k on the road and tax at £300 per year its worth thinking about. :winedrinker:

Then start a car log. Write down all the times the car used, mileage and petrol cost.
Have a look at it after a month.

Below 100 miles per month, you don't need a car.
100-200 its a maybe.

Nah! Too much hassle. I'll just carry on with the Peugeot for a bit whilst we make our minds up.

OI! I can't be seen in the cheapest car on the market; think of my reputation, my standing in polite Surrey society, my career.

You have a Peugeot [rofl02.gif]

The Dacia's are like the car you had when you were young.......mid 1970's... basic and underpowered on the motorways

But no one will steal it, you car drive at 20 miles per hour and blame the car, not your age and there cheap to run :whee:

Been driving Peugeots for forty years or more and......never been let down. Not many motorists can say that! [eng1.gif]
