There a lot of these on the market right now

Are they worth the money?

Well there simple to fit and last a while. If you have skin disorders like eczema or cellulitis a water softener will help reduce symptoms and severity........or so I'm told [shrug65465.gif]

You can buy ones to fit on shower heads hoses too.

See:

You will save on washing powder and clothes will come out cleaner in hard water areas.

But...........

If you live in a hard water area descaling monthly is still required

All kinds of crap builds up inside a washing machine each time its used. Without regular cleaning the machines wont last long.

I feel the only advantage of a washing machine water softener over products like Calgon is convenience and running costs. You can buy dishwasher salt for 50p per Kg or less in most supermarkets and 24 wash packet of Calgon is £4.

And with a water softener on the mains pipe.... you wont forget to add it to the wash :rarrr:
