A basic Vax steam cleaner doesn't need any products, I don't think any of my steam cleaners have, it takes a couple of minutes to take it out of the cupboard, fill the water reservoir and plug it in, switch it on and another couple of minutes and you're ready to go - 5 minutes max. Not sure how you could possibly string that out to 20 minutes

As for the kitchen, the nozzle gets into the nooks and crannies that you can't reach with a sponge and spray cleaner, and it's kinder to the environment.

Well clearly Ambers being a woman or trying to be.....failed yet again

You need detergent and it costs a tenner [9n5.gif]

Love the idea of a "couple of minutes" setting them up [rofl02.gif]

You have to put the right nozzle on, fill it with water and detergent.... then find a safe place in kitchen away from water to plug it in [9n5.gif]

Then wait for it to warm up and hope the cord reaches the area you want to clean..........

Basic vax steam mop/cleaner, no detergent required.
http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5546789

Fill the water reservoir straight from the tap, plug it in - none of my plug sockets are near water - a minute later you're good to go. From the kitchen socket I can do one side of my downstairs, then unplug and plug back in the hallway, does the other side of my downstairs. Pretty much the same as my vacuum cleaner.

I use one kind of nozzle for my kitchen and bathroom, another kind for my windows, takes a minute or two to change the nozzle. The rest of the nozzles are in a box, never used.

You really do make a meal of things don't you?

Oh God.... let's just forget about the simple fact they wouldn't sell steam cleaner detergent if you didn't need it

I'm going to reply in simple away.....for a simple person [adrian.gif]

Most fats or oils boiling point is over 100C. All you are doing with a steam cleaner is softening them and removing part of them with a cloth. You get is a thin film of oil or fat that gets into all the nooks and crannies.

100C will kill germs and bacteria, but not spores. They need around 140C to die.

So by using a steam cleaner without detergent you get a thin film of dirty oily bacteria spores coving the area you just cleaned [9n5.gif]

Remember 10,000 bacteria spores will fit on a pin head.........10 will make you sick as a dog for a week or kill you if they get into your system and start multiplying.

At Least start putting a little white vinegar into your steam cleaner... if only to cut back on lime scale [adrian.gif]

I forgot to mention I went and bought me one of these steam cleaners and I'm pretty impressed. You fill it in the same way you'd fill a kettle plug it in and within 20 seconds its hot enough to use. I love the way it gets into all the nooks and crannies using various adaptors. Its really good for cleaning the grout between tiles as well without having to scrub and not a bottle of detergent cleaner in sight.

Its quite ironic that somebody who spends the whole summer sat in his house should comment on other peoples pastimes.
