Give doa 5 minutes and he'll tell you why you shouldn't use a steam cleaner and provide a youtube link to something vastly expensive that does something completely different to what you want...

Vax.

I've tried others but keep coming back to Vax, not too expensive, good range of attachments, most of which you'll think are a good idea but will never use. Don't waste your money on a Karcher steam cleaner, worst one I've had.

They don't seem to sell Vax at any shops near me. The Black and Decker FSMH1321 has caught my eye though. No bad reviews from what I can see.

Don't think I've ever tried a Black and Decker steam cleaner

The Hoover and the Karcher that I had were rubbish, both dripped water, and the Bush one lasted all of a week before giving up the ghost. I usually get a good 18 months out of a Vax cleaner, does the whole house (all stone floors and wooden floors apart from the stairs) and I also use the handheld bit to clean my kitchen, bathrooms and the inside of my windows.

Hmmm.... steam cleaners

I brought one around 5 years ago and only used it a few times. The best ones are cordless, but you can't use them for long....10-15 mins [shrug65465.gif]

It really comes down to what your using them for. It's quicker to clean up the kitchen with a sponge and all purpose cleaner that set up the steam cleaner.

For carpets they don't really clean that well. You need the brush heads of a carpet cleaner to get the worst stains out.

The main problem seems to be there never really ready to go: you spend 20 mins setting them up for a 5 min job.

Ambers right on the nail with VAC.... the machines are ok... there cleaning products they require are overpriced and you can find better stuff for a 1/3 of the price.

If you can find a good cordless steam cleaner with a fast warm up time, buy one....overall owning one for the last few years was a total waste of money.

The carpet cleaner is used more and regularly removeds coffee, wine and sin's of the flesh from sofa's, chairs and matterices. Its useful for car seats too. :shifty:
