The wireless card may have just come to the end of its life after 12 years of abuse. And if the ethernet cable is not working too, this is what might have happened.
Take the lappy to a coffee shop or friends house and try it out on there internet before you bin it. Like I said at the start sky boxes have driven me mad for years. Those cheap frking boxes and there silly security setup's are a form of torture banned in 3rd world countries with tin pot dictators
