It may be pretty unlikely, but it would be such a victorious vindication for a sport smothered at times by both delusion and cynicism.
However France are a solid, enthralling outfit and would also be worthy champions.
Either way, I hope it's a good game and not too cagey.

At 4-2 with twenty minutes left, it’s definitely not cagey..

And so it ends. Allez les Bleus ... a wonderful tournament, enigmatic VAR moments, breathtaking goals and splendid saves. Head-scratching early departures, and new heroes..

In the end, as Gary Lineker kept telling us, football went home.. or rather Jules Rimet returned to his native country. As France stood waiting for the trophy, the heavens opened.. Russia finally said, thanks for the memories, now piss off home, the lot of you.

As Putin heads to Helsinki to meet Trump, we’re left with some wonderful stories, most unlike the ones painted by our media, of a welcoming Russian populace, doors opened to strangers, Russians and Spanish fans speaking English (of a sort) about football, friendship and life in general.. like most bars across the globe..

In a world of war, bombing mistrust... dictators and oppression... throw a football in the middle and see what happens..

Quite poetic that Tiggy lad. And I totally agree. Well said.

Negatives of the tournament: Blatant cheating and foul play by every South American team that took part. VAR should also be used to stamp this out.

Positives, everything bar the above was a positive, a quite spectacular tournament from beginning to end. It'll be difficult to be bettered. Well done Russia :yey: :yey: :yey:

That just shows what can be made to happen when all the baddies are put out of the way.
It has been an extreme cosmetic exercise for Putin and he comes out of it smelling of shit...still!

What exactly was it that Putin did to upset you so much?

He didn't do it to me, FC, but his Politsia cleared off the undesireables, These were not all criminals, many were ordinary dissidents. I don't think that many of these poor people saw much football.

So you don't like him because he manages to keep order in his own country? Is that really a reason to dislike him? I'd say a lot of our western leaders could learn a thing or two from him about keeping order. He manages quite successfully to do what they very obviously can't.

Well, FC, I think he is a tad firmer than our police are allowed to be.

Hang on while I try to have a word with those shut away for the duration, I think their story might be more compelling than mine. [9n5.gif]
